No Bully Zone

No Bully Zone

This week I am honored to be part of a fashion show that is working hand in hand with a organization against bulling.  This problem has come into focus over the years as more and more kids have to deal with the issues and hurt of being bullied.  I am honored to be part of Dream Believe Know It Foundation that is putting on ”Rock the Runway” for a Purpose to Strut Out BULLYING Charity Fashion Show Event.  The DBK Foundation will take over the Grand Summit Hotel, in Summit NJ. by strutting away bullying in honor of their 2011/2012 “Caution No Bully Zone” campaign.  The gliz and glamour of New York Fashion Week, will be here in NJ.

Bullying has become an increasingly growing problem because everyday thousands of kids are affected and it has many parents, teachers, communities and other organization worried. There are documented studies that show how bullying can lead to mental health issues, suicide, low self esteem, stress, anxiety and depression. Organizations such as DBK (Dream Believe know It foundation) are created a program that features a curriculum that schools can implement to Stop Bullying.

The Foundation spokes model and New Jersey native is model from Project runway season 4 Lea Rannel. Also speaking at the event is DBK founder Daryl Washington along with “DBK Youth” 15 year old president & Buffalo NY native Kally Kennedy and “Miss Teen America” Katarina Kneer.

If you are free, and would like to see a great fashion show, along with bringing awareness to the this issue, please join us.

The Salon Guy, Joy Cutrone, Me

Today as I was looking at pictures of my henna adventures this past year, I came across the pictures of the event that made a huge impact on me, where I met so many great people, and gave me a automatic love for what I do.  It also reinforced to me, that House Of Henna is all about giving back.

In Her Shoes, is a organization offers support to local domestic violence teams as well as informational resources.  They are non-profit organization, who goal is to raise awareness about domestic violence.  They want let women and men alike know that there is help for them, there is HOPE for a violence free life.

For this event “In Her Shoes” along with “The Salon Guy” Stephen Marinaro, a highly respected professional in the salon and beauty industry, teamed up to give a make over to a local Jersey woman, and her daughter. This woman 2 years previously, had been in a abusive marriage, ending with her husband shooting her in the face, then killing himself.  This woman had been through so much, and going to a beauty salon was not something she did while married, due to concerns of hostility from her husband, and accusations of infidelity.  This woman went though a long recovery period, and still suffers from post traumatic stress of the abuse she lived through.

But on 9-14-11, it was all about this survivor and her daughter.  They were given a day of all out beauty and attention,  followed by “The Salon Guy” cameras.  In the evening there was a great party of friends, family and supporters just to see her make over and celebrate her new look on life.  What an inspiration she is.  What a positive woman, who after having been in a horrible situation, can still look at life with enthusiasm, and share such love and encouragement to her family.  That night I did henna on a variety of ladies, it was such fun.  All of us there to celebrate this wondeful event.  I also got to do henna on the daughter of the survivor, and what a bright, beautiful and smart young woman.Me with Survivor's Daughter

On that night, I realized that there is so much to life.  And House Of Henna needs to be involved in more events such as this.  Charity events, fund raisers, events for good causes.  If I can be there to help out and share my love of henna, I am so there.
